This week I had the pleasure to present results from my NWO Rubicon project on Eritrean and Nigerian migrants journeys to Italy at the Netherlands Ministry of Security and Justice. The seminar was hosted by the Ministry of Security and Justice Research and Documentation Centre and the Netherlands Demographic Society. In this seminar key themes were explored such as migrants mobilities through Europe (Joris Schapendonk and Halvar Andreassen) and reasons Syrian migrants and unaccompanied minors come to the Netherlands (Djamila Schans, Mieke Malieveld, Isik Kulu Glasgow, Sanne Noyon).
There are many questions that have been brought forward such as:
- What is the temporariness of destinations and does this vary for different types of migrants?
- How do destinations change and evolve during the journey?
- What are the interactions between policies and destination choices?
