I have been fortunate to be part of a great special issue on Temporary Migration led by Anna Triandafyllidou. My article is open access and focuses on return migration and temporariness.
Temporariness is explored in three different types of return migrants:
1) ‘Regulated temporariness’ of skilled returnees in an IOM temporary return knowledge transfer programme wherein the duration of return is determined by the programme
2) ‘Imposed temporariness’ through an AVR programme to Albania @ADMIGOV which limits their stay in the intended destination country
3) ‘Flexible temporariness’ of highly skilled transnational return migrants to Ethiopia whom decide freely on their mobility and return
This categorization reflects on the role of agency within temporariness and how returnees intend and react to the temporal dimension of the migration and return episodes.
