On 4 May I spoke at the EMN Germany Annual Conference on: Return Counselling – Integrated Return Management – Reintegration. My talk focused on the relationship between sustainable return, remigration, reintegration and the return decision making process. The conference was very timely as Germany is investing 150 million Euros into return and reintegration programmes over the next three years. In 2016 alone, over half of all assisted voluntary returns facilitated by IOM were returning from Germany. Return is a critical step for Germany in managing migration. In late 2016, GIZ has taken on the mandate for return and reintegration. This has led to a new development approach to return that will soon be implemented.
